How I Cut my Ear

or

What I did while Jeff was gone

I think I'll let Jeff tell the story.

Well, I went to Wisconsin for a few days and left Misha with my neighbor Isaac and his human Bob.

Misha and Isaac (the dog) were playing and somehow Misha's ear was injured. Although ears are pretty sensitive parts of a dog, he didn't initially complain, and mostly just wanted to go back to playing with Isaac.

Misha still thinks that Bob and Isaac are cool play toys. Especially Isaac.

Bob said that when he walked into VHUP with Misha that his (Bob's) arms were covered with blood (from holding Misha?), causing a certain amount of panic at the hospital. Misha was triaged to the next morning when all was said and done, though, because they had something like ten emergency surgeries that night.

The wound was more severe than I'd thought, although it makes sense, since Bob did take him to VHUP, which one wouldn't bother to do for a simple scratch. Stitches in a couple spots, a portion of his ear about 1 cm across that's got no skin. Most of the damage is on the inner surface.

He'll be fine. He's on antibiotics. The bandages are off, mostly because he pulled them off and ate them. (He kept trying to pull them off, and each morning I'd wake up to find them around his nose. I'd push them back on top of his head. Then one day I came home to find them all over the house, so I cut off what remained and cleaned up. Next day I found another pile, partly digested. So I threw them away, too.)

It's pretty clear that it hurts him, but it'll get better. He was lethargic for a few days because they put him under to stitch him up and bandage him. Now he's lethargic because it's 90 degrees F out. Just as well. He should sleep. (He only gets 20 hours a day, you know.)

The bandages were amusing: made him look like Greta Garbo. I guess he was looking for a more positive image when he pulled them off.
