[ stephane christopher columbus house Wed-23-Jun-2004 16:58:46 ]
A few tenuous shreds of less than solid evidence suggest that Christopher Columbus was born in Calvi. While scholars debate (or find better things to do), city elders promote. The site is marked on our maps and indicated by locals, but not indicated by even a plaque. The purported house is not the one in the background under repair, but the space before it where a few stones and traces suggest the remains of the (at the latest) fourteenth century structure that would have (could have) been Columbus' childhood home.
The arch where Stephane stands might, perhaps, have belonged to that house, which might, perhaps, have belonged to some relative of the misguided but historically lucky sea-farer.
